MONDAY:
Dance & Yoga Mix
Come explore a world where Yoga meets Dance. In this class we will be creating a fun and explorative atmosphere where key philosophies of both Yoga and Dance techniques will be learned. We will be covering basic Yoga Asanas and breath work as well as dance elements such as turning, jumping and moving fluidly to both classical and up beat music. Props such a scarves and ribbons will help us create an imaginative atmosphere. End of class relaxation will invite students to find silence and presence in the moment.
Anna Goehner is a Kripalu certified “Yoga Ed K-8th” instructor, Kripalu certified “Y.O.G.A. for Youth” instructor as well as a Radiant Child Yoga Special needs instructor. She has been teaching yoga to kids and teens for 8 years. Anna believes kids and teens can greatly reduce and manage their stress levels when practicing Yoga and mindfulness. She holds a B.F.A. from Cornell University.

“Chemistry is Fun” classes encourage exploration and discovery through hands-on experiments and activities. Children will be introduced to basic science concepts such as classification, observation, and hypothesis formulation. Experiments include:  using cabbage juice as an indicator  understanding chemical reactions  experimenting with mixtures (make your own lava lamp)  polymer exploration  density, and more! Ewa Pillardy is a former high school chemistry teacher.

Join Kaela Klapan, Cornell Cooperative Extensions Nutrition Educator for a  6-week series to learn about the 5 foods groups, how food keeps us energized and healthy, and how to be a good kitchen helper at home. We will be making tasty treats like apple roll-ups, and other healthy snacks, so make sure you sign-up today!

Books & Art 
Be inspired to create your own masterpieces through the wonder of picture books! This class will introduce a new book per class to enjoy while exploring different styles and artistic media.  We will experiment with resist paintings (using crayon and watercolor), gel crayons (which turn to paint with water and a brush), paper cuts, tissue paper, model magic and acrylic paint to create unique expressions of your artistic self!  Taught by Jessica Peery, Art Teacher at CSMA, Cornell Alumna and Local Mom of five Amazing Kiddos!

Pathfinder Role Playing Game (3rd-5th)
Have you ever wanted to play the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons?  A version of D&D, Pathfinder involves picking an identity (you can be a dragon-born sorcerer, an elf rogue, a half-orc fighter, or something else altogether) and going on magical quests to search for treasure, fight dangerous enemies, and more. You and your fellow gamers will be led by expert game master Jeffrey Witty on an ongoing campaign set in the mythical kingdom of Hibernia. Dice, maps, and other adventure tools provided. You may even level up! This class is offered on 2 different days, choose your level: This Monday class is for Experts. The Thursday class is for Master Players or Beginners.

Girls Basketball (for 3rd and 4th grade)
Introduction to basketball fundamentals. First 30 minutes will be dedicated to skills development and in-game concepts followed by 30 minutes of competitive play with feedback and coaching. No previous basketball experience required. Crystal played competitive basketball for many years and has enjoyed coaching Belle Sherman girls teams for the past few seasons.

Cool School Food (for 3rd-5th grade)
Learn to cook delicious nutritious dishes from around the world-based on recipes that are served weekly in our school cafeterias.  Each week we will prepare a different recipe from our Cool School Food entrees, learning important kitchen skills and the value of plant-based whole food nutrition. Good for your body, good for the planet! We will also introduce students to a world of delicious beverages—such as fruity, non-caffeinated teas (no sugar!) Presented by the Coalition for Healthy School Food.

Woodworking (for 3rd—5th grade) 
Students will learn to measure, mark, cut, glue and nail wood. Students will make a few planned projects, such as a cajon (box drum), a catapult, and a wooden car. Students will also be able to create their own projects such as a toolbox, doll house furniture, a helicopter, or almost anything from their imagination. Paints will be available to decorate projects as well.

Bookbinding: Exploring the Fold 
Students will learn various folds as a way of understanding the structure of the book and how our personal voice is located in its making. The fold expands the creative notions as it allows an infinity of styles and invention. Celeste Regal is a multimedia book artist who often uses metalsmithing and metal casting in her art. She recently returned from 3 years making art in India.

Chess: The Royal Game 
Learn the Royal Game! Beginners to experts are welcome to learn the rules and strategies that will put you on the road to chess mastery. Learn the techniques to deliver checkmate with various types of pieces. Learn the many tactical elements which will enable you to outwit your opponents even when they don’t make obvious blunders. And above all, gain an appreciation of the beauty of a well played game, hopefully one of yours!
Each session will start with a brief lesson on the above topics, followed by an opportunity to put this knowledge into use by one-on-one play. Robert Weinberg is life-long chess player who has achieved the ranking of National Master. He’s coached the chess clubs at Belle Sherman Elementary and DeWitt Middle Schools for several years, and have organized field trips to several scholastic tournaments in the Central New York Region.

Music for Music Lovers
Have you ever noticed that musicians listen to music differently? In this enrichment class, we’ll learn to listen to music like musicians do. We’ll learn about the basic elements that make up a song: rhythm, melody, harmony, and lyrics. With a better understanding of how songs are written, students will be able to appreciate music in a deeper way. They’ll also be able to better express their own ideas about what makes a song good or interesting. There will be lots of hands-on activities to illustrate the points we’ll be learning: bucket drumming, scatting, mad-lib song writing and much more! Liam Lawson is a guitar teacher, open mic host, bandleader and musician in the Ithaca area. He has played in bands of all kinds since he was a child and wants to share his love of music and the power of rock and roll!

Ultimate Frisbee (for 4th and 5th grade)
Ultimate is a non-contact sport that combines elements of soccer, football and basketball. Teams score goals by advancing a flying disc (Frisbee) into the opponents end zone by throwing to teammates— running with the disc is not allowed. This 6-week program will focus on developing the key skills of throwing and catching through fun drills and games. The Ultimate concept of “Spirit of the Game”, which emphasizes fair play and sportsmanship, will be emphasized. The instructor, Gavin Sacks, has played Ultimate for 25 years, and has extensive prior coaching experience.

-(iJump) (for 3rd-5th grade)
iJUMP promotes youth leadership development, increases awareness of the sport of jump rope, and promotes safe and respectful relationships across cultures. The class is designed to promote increased physical activity, communication, conflict resolution and respect.
In Learning the Ropes students will:
 Learn individual, single long rope and Double Dutch skills
 Learn how to manage conflict, communicate effectively and work in teams.
 Develop and apply Growth Mindset concepts to each lesson.
Davi Mozie is a certified world jump rope instructor and youth violence prevention specialist with over twenty years experience working globally and across the U.S.

Nurturing CreativityThere is an artist inside all of us! Join us for an interactive exploration in creativity and visual arts. Nurturing creativity in students supports mindfulness, increases both imaginative and critical thinking, and builds problem-solving skills. The visual arts are also a healthy tool for expression and development. Students will participate in stimulating exercises and complete two painting and collage projects. All materials are provided and students will be given a sketchbook to take home for continuing their creative practices. Classes will be taught by award-winning and internationally recognized painter and muralist Terrance Vann.

Ceridwen’s Cauldron: a Storytelling Class
In this class we will plunge into myths, fairy tales and stories from around the world, exploring them through art, writing, and simple theater games. The stories will be from such places as Russia, Wales, India and the Americas, and will be woven together with music and song. Students will also begin to tell stories themselves, learning to bring words on a page alive into the voice so they can be heard and shared by others.
Jay Leeming is a performance storyteller who has spent years telling stories in classrooms and libraries, as well as to adult audiences in theaters and National Parks. The creator of the Crane Bag Storytelling Podcast, he is the author of two books of poetry and the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He is a former Tompkins County Poet Laureate and the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

TennisWe are here to give children an opportunity to experience tennis in a safe and fun environment! On court activities including games, tennis stations featuring movement and racquet skills. Learn tennis basics through fun games and activities. Equipment provided. Kids should bring a water bottle. Anda Perianu has been playing tennis for 32 years and competed in 12 Grand Slams, including the US Open Mixed Doubles in 2015. Since 2012 she’s been the Facility Manager and Tennis Director at Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University.
